IQUIQUE

In indigenous Aymara language “Place of dreams”, Iquique is a city placed amongst white sand beaches, large palms and tall buildings. Its historic quarter has many places that date back to the colonial times and the saltpeter abundance period, still present in its glamorous constructions of foreing influence. Towards the pampa territories, deserted towns can be found, like Humberstone, from the prosperous days of saltpeter exploitation. The presence of geoglyphs and petroglyphs is a clear evidence of important vestiges from the Aymara and Atacameña cultures. The Volcano Isluga National Park represents the beauty of the region, and the Tirana town shows their tradition through religious festivities.
